#60 William & Mary Upends Valpo Men's Tennis on Saturday
Jeffrey Schorsch raised his singles record to 10-1 on the spring with a straight-set at No. 1 Saturday at #60 William and Mary.

The Valpo men's tennis team had its six-match winning streak snapped at the hands of #60 William & Mary on Saturday at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center in Williamsburg, Virginia. Junior Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) won his fourth straight singles match at No. 1, as he defeated Christian Cargill, 6-4, 6-2. However, the Tribe recorded wins at the bottom five flights of singles play as part of a 6-1 team triumph over the Crusaders.

Schorsch and Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) dropped their first doubles match since Jan. 30th, coming out on the wrong end of a 6-3 duel with Scott Huang and Ryan Newman. Cargill and Addison Appleby snatched the doubles point for the Tribe at No. 2 with a 6-3 defeat of Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and Danny Oakes (Elburn, Ill./Saint Charles North). Chad Kissell (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) salvaged a 6-4 victory at No. 3 versus Lars de Boer and Damon Niquet.

Appleby put William & Mary ahead 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Bacalla at No. 2. Schorsch got the Crusaders on the scoreboard with his 6-4, 6-2 victory. He improved to 10-1 in singles on the spring. All ten of those have been in straight-set fashion.

Aidan Talcott downed Garrett Gardner (Poland, Ohio/Poland) 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 before de Boer clinched the match for William & Mary with a 6-3, 7-5 defeat of Emhardt at No. 4.

Dunn and Niquet battled back-and-forth at the No. 6 slot before the Tribe collected a 6-4, 6-4 triumph. Kissell and Alec Miller also engaged in a marathon match at No. 4. Kissell took the first set 6-3, but fell 7-5 in a second-set tiebreaker. Miller ultimately came out on top in the final stanza, 7-5.

Valpo (10-5) will wrap up its spring trip Sunday afternoon at Richmond. First serve between the Crusaders and Spiders is slated for 1 pm ET/12 pm CT.
