Valpo Defeats UIC 6-1 to Remain Perfect at Home

The Valpo men's tennis maintained two winning streaks Friday in a 6-1 victory over UIC. The Crusaders improved their home record to 11-0 while pushing their Horizon League record to 3-0. Chad Kissell (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) were both winners in singles and doubles.

Dunn and Kissell registered the first win of the day at No. 3 doubles. The duo doubled up Max Cederkall/Marcelo Dib, 6-3. Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) were on the verge of their sixth consecutive win at No. 1 doubles before Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and Lucas Waak (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) emerged with a 6-3 win over Carl Hedstrom/Nate Campanile at No. 2. 

Schorsch put the Crusaders ahead 2-0 by virtue of his 6-3, 6-2 triumph versus Hedstrom atop singles. Dunn made quick work of Campanile at No. 6, downing the senior 6-1, 6-2. 

Kissell clinched the match at No. 3 thanks to his 6-3, 6-2 victory over Dib. The win was Kissell's sixth straight in singles. The freshman's record now stands at 23-8. 

Emhardt kept the train moving following his 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Mitch Granger. Christopher Cole got the Flames on the scoreboard at No. 2 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Bacalla. 

Garrett Gardner closed the match out with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Cederkall at No. 5 singles. 

Valpo (17-5, 3-0 Horizon) secured its spot atop the Horizon League standings. The Crusaders will travel to Detroit (3-14, 0-4 Horizon) to face the Titans on Sunday at 10 am ET/9 am CT.
