The Valpo men's tennis team's 2015-16 season reached its climax Sunday with a 4-0 victory over Green Bay in the title match of the Horizon League Championship. The win vaults the Crusaders into the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. In the process, the Brown and Gold set a school record for victories in a season with 22.

Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) again won 6-3 atop doubles play as they knocked off Leo Gomez Islinger/Florian Kraenzler to open the afternoon. The doubles point depended on the winner of No. 2 after Miles McDowell/Matej Kostadinov got past Chad Kissell (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac), 6-3 at No. 3.

Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and Garrett Gardner (Poland, Ohio/Poland) delivered the clincher with a 6-2 dismissal of Howard Scott and Joey Leto.

It was Schorsch who pushed the Crusaders ahead 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 1. Emhardt followed his doubles partners' lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win of his own at No. 4 over Joshua Schramm.

With the remaining matches at No. 2, 3, 5, and 6 immersed in third-set action, Gardner rallied for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 to ignite the Crusader dogpile.

The 4-0 win was Valpo's second in as many days. The Crusaders (22-5) blanked Cleveland State Saturday by the same margin to advance to Sunday's title tilt. They'll now await their destination in the NCAA Tournament.
