Men’s Tennis Earns Academic Honor

The success of the 2017 Horizon League champion Valparaiso University men’s tennis team extends beyond athletic competition.

While breaking the program record for wins in a single season on the court, the Crusaders enjoyed similar success in the classroom during the 2016-17 athletic and academic year. The Valpo men’s tennis team was named an All-Academic team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.

In addition, six individuals were named ITA scholar athletes – Brandon Ancona (Belvidere, Ill. / Rockford Christian), Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill. / Niles North), Franklin Brozovich (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern), Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis. / Fond du Lac), Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio / Perrysburg) and Daniel Langston (Ponca City, Okla. / Ponca City).

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any team with a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 and have been enrolled at their current school for at least two semesters.

The Crusaders are one of four teams in the Summit League to achieve the ITA honor.
