The Valparaiso University men’s tennis team won its second consecutive Summit League Player of the Week honor as the league bestowed its weekly award upon junior Chad Kissell (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) on Tuesday.
Kissell helped Valpo blank Oral Roberts 7-0 on Friday to improve to 2-1 in Summit League action with his contributions in both singles and doubles. He cruised to a straight-set victory over Kenneth Boykin at No. 1 singles, winning 6-0, 7-5. In addition, he teamed up with Brandon Ancona for a 6-2 win over Marcello Moreira and Andrew Guymon at No. 2 doubles.
Kissell stands at 14-11 in singles play and 15-10 in doubles action this season. He picked up his 62nd career singles win, a total that ranks seventh in program history. Saturday’s doubles performance allowed Kissell to take over sole possession of fifth in career doubles wins with 70.
The Crusaders are back in action on Wednesday in Omaha, Neb. as they continue Summit League play against Omaha. Valpo is seeking its third straight win and fourth in the last five matches. The match against the Mavericks will begin at 7 p.m. CT.
