Valpo Ninth at DePauw Invitational

Valparaiso finished in ninth place in a field of 18 teams on Saturday at the DePauw Invitational.

The Crusaders tallied 34 points on the afternoon, while Southern Illinois-Edwardsville came out on top with 173 points.

Elliot Powell (Orange, Calif./Santa Ana H.S.) finished second for the Brown and Gold in the 200m dash, turning in a time of 22.32 seconds in the field of 53 runners. The senior also placed sixth in the 55m, crossing the finish line in 6.54 seconds. Teammate Chris Daniels (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) was fourth in the 55m, finishing .02 seconds ahead of Powell.

Jason Douthett (Highland, Ind./Highland H.S.) also scored for the Crusaders on the track. The freshman finished seventh in the 800m run with a time of 2:01.33.

On the infield, Todd Goodrick (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester H.S.) placed second in the shot put with a toss of 51'2 ¼". Teammate Bryan Bell (Bellevue, Neb./East H.S.) was third in the weight throw with his heave of 53'5 ¾".

Valpo will return to action on Saturday morning as the Crusaders head to the Chicagoland Championships. Events begin at 10 a.m.
