Crusaders Conclude Competition at Findlay

Jim Turchyn's (Batesville, Ind./Batesville H.S.) performance in the mile was the best individual finish by a Valpo runner on the day, as the Crusaders concluded two days of action at the Findlay Indoor Track and Field Classic Saturday.

Turchyn crossed the line seventh in the mile run, coming home with a time of 4:27.46. Following close behind him was fellow freshman Rich Krupar (Elyria, Ohio/Midview H.S.), who finished 14th in 4:32.62.

Two Crusaders also finished among the top-20 in the 3000 meter run. David Wheeler (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East H.S.) placed 14th, hitting the line in 9:08.21. Michael Brouch (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) recorded a time of 9:15.34, good for 18th place.

In the field events, Tom Heun (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights H.S.) finished 17th in the long jump, leaping 19'7". Eric Smith (Portage, Ind./Portage H.S.) led seven Crusaders in action in the shot put, with a toss of 42'11".

Valparaiso returns to action next weekend, traveling to Notre Dame, Ind. to take part in the Meyo Invitational. Action begins at 4:00 p.m. CST on Friday, February 3rd, and resumes Saturday the 4th at 10:00 a.m.
