Crusaders Compete at Findlay Indoor Track and Field Classic

Chris Honig (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South [Indiana]) led the Valpo men Friday and Saturday at the Findlay Indoor Track and Field Classic with a third-place finish in the 3,000m run.

Honig crossed the line in the event with a time of 8:50.08, just over two seconds behind the winner and just six-tenths behind second place. Leandro Schultz (Valley View, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) also earned a top-20 finish in the event, coming home 16th in 9:08.30.

The Crusaders also placed multiple top-20 finishers in the mile run, with Rich Krupar III (Elyria, Ohio/Midview) posting a Valpo season-best time of 4:30.61, good for tenth place. Jim Turchyn (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) followed close behind Krupar, finishing in 4:35.72, good for 13th place.

Steve Bartholomew (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) led the Valpo contingent in the throws with a seventh-place finish in the weight throw. Bartholomew's toss of 55'7 ½" improved on his second-best mark in the event in Crusader history, surpassing his previous career best by nearly five inches.

Valparaiso returns to the track next weekend in Akron, Ohio to take part in the Akron Open on February 2 and 3. The meet begins Friday night at 6 p.m. Central time.
