Tuesday, January 22, 2008

Senior Steve Bartholomew (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) was named the U.S. Army Horizon League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week today following his winning performance last weekend at the Phoenix Invitational in Chicago, Ill.

Bartholomew took top honors in the weight throw for the second time this season in as many meets, registering a toss of 56’4 ¾” for the victory.  His winning mark was over five feet longer than the runner-up’s distance.  This marks the second honor this season for the senior, who was named the league’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week on Dec. 19.

In the classroom, Bartholomew carries a 3.281 grade point average as a management major.  As a junior, he was named to the Mid-Continent Conference All-Academic Team and was also placed on the Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence.  Bartholomew becomes the seventh different Crusader athlete to earn Scholar-Athlete of the Week accolades from the league office since the start of the academic year.
