Four Valparaiso athletes represented the Crusaders on the Horizon League Men’s Indoor Track and Field Academic All-League squad, as released by the league office today.
Keith Button (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington), a junior mechanical engineering major who carries a 3.678 GPA, competed in the middle distance events for the Crusaders during the 2010 indoor campaign. Button registered a top-ten finish in the 800m run at the Boilermaker Invitational, finishing ninth. A repeat honoree on the indoor track and field Academic All-League team, Button has earned Horizon League Academic Honor Roll recognition each semester he has been eligible.
Jarrett Mickens (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley), a junior biology major who carries a 3.465 GPA, stood out in the jumps for Valpo during the 2010 indoor season. Mickens finished fourth or better in all six meets in the triple jump, including a second-place finish at the HL Championships, and tallied four top-fives in the long jump, including a fifth-place showing at the league meet. Mickens posted the second-best triple jump in school history (46’4 ¼”) and the fourth-best long jump all-time at Valpo (22’1”) at the Chicagoland Championships. The junior has also earned Horizon League Academic Honor Roll recognition each semester he has been eligible.
Jordan Piaskowy (Crete, Ill./Illiana Christian), a sophomore civil engineering major who carries a 3.758 GPA, competed in the long distance events for the Crusaders during this indoor campaign. Piaskowy peaked at the right time for Valpo, posting the team’s second-best 3,000m time of the season (9:11.38) and the squad’s best 5,000m time (15:46.73) at the HL Championships. The sophomore earned a spot on the league’s Academic Honor Roll this past semester as well.
Steve Schubert (Lisle, Ill./Benet Academy), a junior civil engineering major who carries a 3.801 GPA, also competed in the jumps during the 2010 indoor season for Valpo. The junior placed in the top-six in all six meets in the triple jump, including a fifth-place showing at the HL Championships with a leap of 45’0 ¼”, fourth-best all-time at Valpo. Schubert earns a spot on the indoor academic squad for the second straight year, and has also earned Academic Honor Roll recognition each semester he’s been eligible.
