Senior Jarrett Mickens (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) has been named the Horizon League Male Scholar-Athlete for the month of January for his stellar work both in competition and in the classroom.

Mickens broke a pair of 35-year-old Crusader records during the month of January, setting new Valpo standards in the triple jump (48’2”) and long jump (23’9”).  He won the triple jump both times he competed, while recording first and third place finishes in the long jump.  The senior earned Field Male Athlete of the Week honors from the league office on Jan. 18 after setting the new record in the triple jump.
