Crusader Men Finish Final Day of HL Outdoor Championships

Valparaiso’s 4x400-meter relay team set a new program record in the event at the final day of the Horizon League Outdoor Championships. The relay team consisting of Antwon Hatchett (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central), Joe Holy (Bolingbrook, Ill./Joliet Catholic), Kurtis Slenk (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian), and Andrew Butts (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) clocked in at 3:22.05. The record-breaking time was good for fourth-place.

Hatchett also ran for a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles – finishing in 56.05.

In similar fashion, Butts captured a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.84.

Valparaiso’s 4x100-meter relay team made up of Alex Vasile (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso), Don Middlebrook (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield), Holy, and Josh Carow (Greenwood, Ind./Indianapolis Lutheran) finished sixth in the event, crossing the finish line at 43.87.

In the field events, Jacob Smutz (West Lafayette, Ind./Harrison) finished sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 175’6”.

Cory VanArnum (Jacksonville, Fla./Admiral Farragut Academy) finished ninth in the same event, throwing for 146’9”.

The Crusaders placed fifth at the Championships, finishing with 41 points. The host, Youngstown State, captured the team title with 185 points.
