Track & Field Opens Competitive Meyo Invitational on Friday
Zach Topper had a season best in the pole vault on Friday.

Representatives from the Valparaiso University track & field teams headed to Notre Dame on Friday for the Meyo Invitational. The squads were led by junior pole vaulter Jeremy Seiler (Angola, Ind./Fremont) and the men’s distance medley team, each of whom recorded one of the best marks in program history in their events.

How It Happened

  • Seiler set his personal best in the indoor pole vault with a height of 15-7. Not only was this the team’s best performance of the season in the event, it was also Valpo’s third best all-time, bettering his own mark of 15-5¾ from last season.
  • The men’s distance medley relay team – which consisted of Ignacio Veloz Bonilla (San Juan, P.R./American Military Academy), Ben Sekuloski (Lowell, Ind./Lowell), Connor Hickey (Peru, Ill./LasSalle-Peru) and Jack Worman (Hanover Parks, Ill./Hoffman Estates) – recorded a time of 10:11.01, making them the fourth-fastest quartet in Valpo history in that event.
  • Senior Zach Topper (Portage, Ind./Portage) also set his season-best mark in the pole vault when he cleared 14-7¼
  • Katherine Germann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Finneytown) competed in the 5000m run, ending with a time of 18:15.70.
  • In the men’s 5000, Jack Mader (Granger, Ind./Penn) came across at 15:08.14, while Dominic Paoletti (Monroe, Mich./Monroe St. Mary) finished in 15:12.14.
  • Sophomore Lauren Mikolajczak (Bloomingdale, Ill./Montini Catholic) landed a mark of 47-10 in the women’s weight throw. For the men, Jake Rasawehr (Celina, Ohio/Celina) threw 49-11¾.
