The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track & field programs had 10 student-athletes receive recognition on Wednesday as College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly known as CoSIDA) released its academic all-district selections for the 2022-23 season.
A pair of Valparaiso University track & field athletes were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, which was released by the league office on Tuesday. Fifth-year senior distance runner Ignacio Veloz Bonilla (San Juan, P.R. / American Military Academy) and junior thrower Tommy Palmer (Saco, Maine / Phillips Exeter Academy) were both recognized for their academic and athletic prowess.
Freshman Micah Mullings (Minesing, Ontario, Canada / Barrie North) achieved All-Missouri Valley Conference honors by virtue of his top-three finish in the men’s triple jump, while fifth-year senior Ignacio Veloz Bonilla (San Juan, P.R. / American Military Academy) also scored points in the 800-meter run. The Valparaiso University men’s track & field team exceeded pre-championship poll expectations at the MVC Outdoor Championships, which were hosted by Illinois State in Normal, Ill. and concluded on Sunday.
