#7 DePaul Sweeps Valpo Softball

Saskia Roberson hit two grand slams in game two to help propel seventh-ranked DePaul to a doubleheader sweep over Valparaiso on Tuesday afternoon at the Valparaiso University Softball Field. The Blue Demons defeated Valpo 8-0 and 14-0.

In the opener, DePaul registered four hits in the third to plate three runs and added three more in the fifth on the way to the victory. Lindsay Chouinard went the distance allowing four hits and striking out 11 for her 23rd victory of the season.

Amanda Gilbertson (Murrieta, Calif./West Albany H.S., Ore.) doubled in the sixth and Monica Rowan (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park H.S.), Tana Barnes (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.), and Ali Bultman (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield H.S.) all singled for the Brown and Gold.

Brittany Atteberry (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) went the distance for Valpo allowing six earned runs and striking out two.

In the nightcap, the Blue Demons scored three in the opening inning and utilized grand slams from Roberson in both the fourth and fifth on the way to the victory. Sarah Martz scattered three hits and struck out six for DePaul (36-4).

Stephanie Reinke (Parker, Colo./J.K. Mullen H.S.) had two singles for the Crusaders and Bultman added a hit in the fifth. Gilbertson took the loss for Valpo, going 3.1 innings.

Valpo (7-25) will return to the diamond on Wednesday afternoon with a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Notre Dame.
