Senior Morgan Matalin (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) made sure that the Valpo softball team would leave the state of Florida on a high note Sunday morning, blasting a walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Valpo a 7-5 victory over Cleveland State. The Brown and Gold were in position for the potential walk-off win thanks to a clutch game-tying double in the seventh inning from junior Kelsie Packard (Beloit, Wis./Turner [Rock Valley]).

The Valpo softball team suffered a pair of losses on Saturday at THE Spring Games in Longwood, Fla., falling 10-4 to North Carolina A&T before dropping a one-run decision to Longwood, 4-3.


Softball Splits Pair of Extra-Inning Games Friday

The Valpo softball team saw its time at THE Spring Games in Longwood, Fla. begin on Friday with a pair of extra-inning affairs, as the Brown and Gold fell in nine innings to Saint Louis, 3-2, before rebounding for a 5-4 win in 10 innings over Niagara.


Softball Falls to Stetson Wednesday

Embroiled in a scoreless battle into the seventh inning Wednesday evening at Stetson, the Valpo softball team was unable to come out victorious, as the host Hatters got a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh to account for the only scoring in the 2-0 final.


Softball Run-Rules Stetson; Moeder, Milkowski Earn All-Tournament Honors

The Valpo softball team closed out the Stetson Invitational Sunday afternoon in style, run-ruling the host Hatters by a 12-1 final to finish the weekend with a 2-1 record. Sophomore Peyton Moeder (Shawnee, Kan./Mill Valley) and freshman Ryan Milkowski (Olathe, Kan./Olathe West) represented Valpo on the All-Tournament Team for their work at the top of the batting order.


Walk This Way: Valpo Draws Record Number of Walks in Win Over Bethune-Cookman

It’s rather ironic that, playing on Leap Day for the first time in program history, it was the walk which was the big weapon for the Valpo softball team on Saturday. The Brown and Gold drew a school-record 12 walks in their 11-8 victory over Bethune-Cookman, with sophomore Peyton Moeder (Shawnee, Kan./Mill Valley) matching the program’s individual single-game record with four free passes. The win over the Wildcats ensured a split on the day for Valpo as it opened action at the Stetson Invitational, as Valpo dropped its first game of the day to Colgate, 4-1.


Softball Returns to Action at Stetson

The Valpo Softball team kicks off its 2020 spring break trip at the Stetson Invitational this weekend, where it will take on Colgate and Bethune-Cookman in addition to the host Hatters over a two-day stretch. Valpo will stick around DeLand for a mid-week matchup against Stetson as well to close out the first half of its time in Florida.

The Valpo softball team split a pair of one-run decisions on Saturday in its second day of action at the Runnin’ Bulldog Tournament in Boiling Springs, N.C. Valpo opened the day with a 2-1 victory over Colgate behind a one-hitter from junior Kelsie Packard (Beloit, Wis./Turner [Rock Valley]), but fell 3-2 to Gardner-Webb in the eighth inning in the international tiebreak. Junior Brittany Anderson (East Chicago, Ind./Bishop Noll) led the Valpo offense with two-hit efforts in both games.

The Valpo softball team bounced back from an opening loss at the Runnin’ Bulldog Tournament in Boiling Springs, N.C. on Friday with a win to earn a split on the day. Valpo fell 2-1 to Robert Morris in its tournament opener, but rebounded by taking down host Gardner-Webb, 7-3.


Softball Continues Pre-Conference Play at Gardner-Webb

After heading south last weekend to open the 2020 season, the Valpo softball team flies southwest from snowy Northwest Indiana to North Carolina for its second weekend of competition, as it plays at the Runnin’ Bulldog Tournament hosted by Gardner-Webb. The Brown and Gold will play the hosts and Colgate twice apiece, as well as Robert Morris once.


Softball Caps Opening Weekend With Win Over UMass Lowell

The Valpo softball team ensured it would leave the Houston Invitational with a winning record through one weekend of play, as pitchers Jenna Edwards (Winchester, Ky./George Rogers Clark [Chattanooga State C.C.]) and Easton Seib (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs South) combined to limit a UMass Lowell team which had scored 21 runs over its first four games to just five hits in a 4-1 Valpo victory Sunday morning.


Four-Hit Game From Kehlenbrink Leads Softball to Saturday Split

Valpo softball freshman Lauren Kehlenbrink (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) enjoyed a game to remember in her fourth career game in a Valpo uniform Saturday afternoon in Houston, going 4-for-4 and connecting on a key 3-run home run in the sixth inning of a 6-5 victory over Fordham. Valpo split two games for the second straight day, as earlier in the day, Northwestern State posted a 6-1 win over the Brown and Gold.


Win Over Fordham Gives Softball Split On Opening Day

The Valpo softball team kicked off the 2020 season in winning fashion on Friday at the Houston Invitational, scoring three runs in the final two innings to earn a 5-4 victory over Fordham, seven-time defending Atlantic 10 champions, in the season opener. The nightcap saw Valpo fall to host Houston 9-0 as the Cougars tossed a no-hitter.

Valpo softball head coach Kate Stake announced today that Kate Beckemeyer will transfer to Valparaiso University at the semester break. Beckemeyer, who played last season as a freshman at Parkland College, will be immediately eligible for the Brown and Gold in 2020 and has three seasons of eligibility remaining.


Softball Adds Two to Incoming Class

Valpo softball head coach Kate Stake announced today that Alexis Johnson and Madison Wathen have signed to join the program as incoming freshmen for the 2020-21 school year. Johnson and Wathen join the previously announced five signees from the class of 2020.
