Valpo Softball Adds Pitcher Caitlyn Kowalski

Valpo softball head coach Kate Stake announced today that Caitlyn Kowalski, a right-handed pitcher from Temperance, Mich., will join the softball program as an incoming freshman for the 2021 campaign.

“We went through the recruiting process with Caitlyn a couple years ago, so I’ve had the opportunity to get to know her and her family, and watch her grow as an athlete, for a while now,” said Stake. “While initially the timing wasn’t right, I am so thrilled that Valpo and Caitlyn were able to connect this time around.”

Kowalski was a standout in the circle for Notre Dame Academy, as she was twice named conference Pitcher of the Year and was a three-time First Team All-Conference honoree. Also a two-time Second Team All-District recipient, Kowalski closed her time at Notre Dame Academy the holder of single-season program records for wins and strikeouts, as well as career records for strikeouts, ERA and wins.

Kowalski most recently played her travel ball for Turnin2 Softball after previously playing with Michigan Finesse. She will be well acquainted with a pair of her fellow freshmen, as she played alongside newcomers Kylie Millhorn and Kayla Skapyak at both stops.

“Caitlyn has the ability to step into an impact role right away for us in the circle, which we expect her to do,” said Stake. “I believe she’s just scratched the surface of her potential as a pitcher and I’m very excited she’s chosen to join us this coming year.”
