Tatum Edwards Joins Valpo Softball Staff

Valpo Softball head coach Amanda Eberhart announced today that Tatum Edwards has joined the program as associate head coach. An All-American during her collegiate playing career who went on to play three seasons of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF), Edwards comes to Valpo from Concordia University Nebraska, where she was head coach in 2022.


Softball Adds Three Incoming Freshmen for 2023 Season

Softball Comeback Effort Comes Up Short at MVC Tournament

After falling behind by seven runs in its MVC Tournament opener against Indiana State Wednesday, the Valpo softball team put together a furious comeback effort, closing to within two runs before succumbing to the Sycamores by a 9-5 final in Springfield, Mo. Valpo’s four seniors all stood out in the final game of their careers, combining for seven of the Beacons’ 10 hits, three runs scored and four RBIs.

The Valpo softball team heads to the 2022 MVC Tournament this week in Springfield, Mo. As the tenth seed, Valpo opens tournament play against seventh-seeded Indiana State on Wednesday afternoon. It was a great all-around team effort for the Valpo softball team in its regular season finale against Evansville on Sunday, as the Beacons’ offense and pitching both enjoyed one of their best games of the season in a 10-0 run-rule victory over the Purple Aces to claim the series win.


Softball Earns Senior Day Split With Evansville

A beautiful May afternoon was the backdrop for Senior Day Saturday at the Valpo Softball Complex, as the Beacons split the first two games of a three-game series with Evansville. Valpo led from the opening inning on in a 5-1 victory in the opener before dropping a tough 2-1 decision in extra innings in the nightcap. Between games, the program celebrated six team members competing in the final home series of their collegiate careers.


Softball Set For Final Regular Season Series This Weekend

The Valpo softball team finishes out the regular season this weekend with a three-home game series against visiting Evansville, shifted back one day to a Saturday doubleheader and a Sunday single game. On Saturday in between games, the Beacons will hold their Senior Day ceremony, honoring six members of the program competing at the Valpo Softball Complex for the final time this weekend.

The final series of the regular season for the Valpo softball program has been shifted back one day due to forecasted inclement weather on Friday. The Beacons will now face Evansville in a doubleheader at the Valpo Softball Complex on Saturday at noon, and close out the series with a single game on Sunday at noon.

The Valpo softball team put together a seventh-inning rally in its series finale at Illinois State on Sunday, getting the potential tying run to the plate, but were unable to complete the comeback, falling to the Redbirds by a 7-4 final. Illinois State took Sunday’s opener as well, 17-0.


Softball Denied By Illinois State in Series Opener

Softball Earns Series Win Over Loyola With Road Victory Tuesday

The Valpo softball team closed out a thrilling season series win over Loyola on Tuesday afternoon in Chicago, putting six runs on the board over the final two innings to earn a come-from-behind 6-2 victory over the Ramblers. Sophomore Regi Hecker (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Blue Springs South) had the big blow for the Beacons, delivering a two-out, three-run double in the sixth inning to put Valpo ahead for good.

Trailing by two runs entering the bottom of the sixth on a warm Tuesday afternoon at the Valpo Softball Complex, Jaina Westphal (Waterford, Wis./Burlington) led off the frame with her second home run of the day and Regi Hecker (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Blue Springs South) came up with the clutch hit later in the inning to give the Beacons a 5-4 lead, an advantage they would maintain through the final out of the seventh to earn the victory over Purdue Fort Wayne. Wednesday’s scheduled home game against Northern Illinois has been canceled due to impending thunderstorms.

For the first time in 329 days, the Valpo softball team took to the field at the Valpo Softball Complex for regular season action on Saturday. The Valpo softball team closes out the pre-conference slate this weekend with five games at the Bluegrass Challenge. In an amended tournament schedule due to weather, the Beacons will start off with games against Central Michigan and Louisville at Louisville on Thursday. They will then head to Kentucky, taking on the Wildcats and Eastern Kentucky on Friday before closing the weekend versus Buffalo on Sunday.

Amanda Eberhart Hired as Valpo Softball Head Coach

Valparaiso University Director of Athletics Mark LaBarbera announced today that Amanda Eberhart has been hired as head coach of the Valpo Softball program. Eberhart brings seven years of head coaching experience at the Division I level, most recently spending the last three years as the head coach at Omaha, and also has eight seasons of experience on staffs at Big Ten programs.
