Valpo Records Three Game Sweep of UMBC

Valparaiso completed its four-match trip to the East Coast on Monday evening by sweeping UMBC 32-30, 30-19, 33-31 in Baltimore, Md.

Lauren Moulton (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) and Marion Hansen (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) led the Valpo offensive attack. Moulton had 12 kills and just one error as she hit .579 for the match. Hansen had a match-high 13 kills while hitting .417. She also added 13 digs.

Sarah Schmalz (Corona, Calif./Riverside Christian H.S.) added four service aces, while Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) registered 14 digs for the Brown and Gold. Cyndi Norman (Minooka, Ill./Minooka H.S.) dished out 32 assists for the Crusaders.

Christine Skala led the Retrievers with 12 kills while Heather Hollidge added 16 digs.

For the match, the Crusaders hit .369 with 56 kills and just 11 errors. UMBC (6-4) hit .248 for the contest.

With the victory, the Crusaders recorded their first non-conference road win since 1996 when they beat Cincinnati.

Valpo (5-3) will return to action on Friday evening when the Brown and Gold hosts the Crusader Invitational. The hosts will face Northeastern at 7 p.m.
