Valpo Lone Unbeaten in Mid-Con Play after Win at Western Ililinois

Valparaiso became the lone remaining undefeated team in Mid-Continent Conference action on Friday evening as the Crusaders recorded a 30-22, 30-27, 30-20 win over Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill.

With the win, Valpo improves to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in conference action. The Crusaders have now won seven straight matches.

Lauren Moulton (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) led the way for the Crusaders with 17 kills while hitting .400. Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs H.S.) also had a stellar night hitting with eight kills and a .571 percentage while Katie Bova (Milwaukee, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels H.S.) dished out 42 assists.

Defensively, Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) registered 18 digs, while Lindsey Moore (Wakarusa, Ind./Penn H.S.) added 14 more. Bova and Amy Palash (Winfield, Ill./Saint Francis H.S.) had 11 digs each.

Kali Landis led Western Illinois (5-11, 2-1 Mid-Con) with nine kills and 12 digs. Jennifer Alexander added 20 digs for the Westerwinds.

Valpo hit .289 for the match while holding the hosts to a .086 clip. The Crusaders outdug Western Illinois 67-48 and outblocked them 9-4.

Valparaiso will look for its eighth straight victory tomorrow evening as the Crusaders head to Kansas City, Mo. for a 5 p.m. match against UMKC.
