Campbell Claims League Weekly Award
Emily Campbell earned Player of the Week honors.

Valparaiso sophomore outside hitter Emily Campbell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) has been named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week following her MVP performance last weekend as the Crusaders won the Skyhawk Invitational.

Campbell opened the weekend with a match-best 15 kills on .293 hitting in the Crusaders’ sweep of Western Carolina, adding 11 digs as well.  Saturday morning, Campbell hit at a stellar .433 clip with 15 more kills to lead all players, while also tallying a team-best 15 digs.  Then, to complete the tournament sweep, the sophomore tied for match-high honors with 10 kills and posted 13 digs as well.

Campbell averaged a team-best 4.44 kills/set on .323 hitting in the Crusaders’ trio of sweeps, and also enjoyed her most productive weekend of the season defensively, posting 4.33 digs/set.  It was the first tournament MVP honor of the sophomore’s career and her third All-Tournament Team nod, while the weekly award from the league office was also her first such career accolade.

Campbell and the rest of the Crusaders return to action Tuesday evening, putting their nine-match winning streak on the line at Toledo.  First serve is slated for 6 p.m. CT.
