Valparaiso University junior libero Morganne Longoria (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) has been named the preseason Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year, while fellow junior Emily Campbell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) was named to the preseason All-League Team as the league announced its awards prior to the start of the 2015 campaign Friday.

Longoria has been a stalwart at libero for the Crusaders throughout her first two seasons, picking up a total of 1,075 digs over her freshman and sophomore campaigns. An All-Freshman Team selection in 2013, she averaged 4.59 digs/set in her rookie season to lead the Horizon League. Last season, Longoria picked up 4.44 digs/set to rank fifth in the league, increasing her average to 4.58 digs/set within league action. She has reached double figures in digs in 58 of her 65 career matches and has hit the 20-dig mark on 21 occasions.

Meanwhile, Campbell earned preseason All-League honors after being named the Horizon League co-Player of the Year last season. Also an Honorable Mention All-Region choice in 2014, Campbell led the Crusaders with 480 kills, averaging 4.32 kills/set – good for second in the league. She ranked 24^th nationally in kills/set, while her 480 kills are fifth-most in a single season in program history. Campbell also contributed to the Crusaders’ success defensively, registering 325 digs and totaling 19 double-doubles.
