After two seasons of competition with the Valparaiso University volleyball team, Catherine Ament (New Carlisle, Ind./New Prairie) has been forced to step away from playing due to being medically unable to compete and will be considered a medical non-counter. Despite no longer being able to contribute on the court, Ament will remain a part of the Crusader volleyball program as a student assistant.

Ament appeared in 20 matches over her two years on the court with Valpo, playing a total of 46 sets. A defensive specialist, she tallied 28 digs and a trio of service aces, setting a career best with five digs as a freshman at North Carolina Central and matching the mark last season versus Chicago State. In her two seasons as an active member of the Crusader roster, Valpo posted a 52-16 overall record.

“These past two years, even though she’s been through some tremendous pain, Catherine hasn’t wanted to stop playing the sport she loves,” said Crusader head coach Carin Avery. “But for the sake of her future health, she unfortunately has to stop playing volleyball. Catherine has come into practice every day with a smile on her face and an upbeat personality. Her teammates absolutely love her, and we’re very excited that she is going to continue to be a part of the program, helping us in other ways to be successful even though she won’t be on the court.”
