Anderson Earns Preseason All-MVC Honors; Valpo Picked Seventh

Valparaiso University junior setter Brittany Anderson (East Chicago, Ind./Bishop Noll) has been selected as one of seven members of the Missouri Valley Conference’s preseason All-Conference team heading into the 2019 season.

Anderson earns the preseason accolade following a stellar sophomore campaign in 2018. Last season saw Anderson earn First Team All-MVC honors as she led the nation in total assists, dishing out 1,539 assists over Valpo’s 38 matches. She moved into second in a single season in program history in assists, and the mark also ranked eighth among Division I players since the move to 25-point rally scoring in 2008. Through two seasons, Anderson already ranks eighth in program history in career assists and is on pace to set the program’s career mark in the category.

While her assist numbers are the obvious highlight in her 2018 performance, Anderson’s ability all around the court helped Valpo win 27 matches and advance to the quarterfinals of the NIVC last season. Offensively, Anderson chipped in 85 kills on .266 hitting in addition to her myriad of assists. Defensively, she tallied 372 digs (2.55/set) and registered 87 blocks (0.60/set), ranking second on the team in total blocks and third in blocks/set.

In addition to the preseason All-Conference team, the MVC’s preseason poll was released as well on Wednesday. Valpo was chosen seventh in the preseason polling of the conference’s head coaches, tallying 42 points. The Crusaders have outperformed their preseason poll placement in each of their first two years in The Valley. UNI was a unanimous choice atop the MVC, picking up all 10 first-place votes.
