Cookerly, McCarthy Earn All-Tournament Team Honors at IUPUI
Rylee Cookerly was one of two All-Tournament Team honorees for Valpo last weekend.

Valpo volleyball juniors Rylee Cookerly (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) and Peyton McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) represented Valpo on the All-Tournament Team at IUPUI’s Hampton Inn Invitational last weekend, the third career All-Tournament Team accolade for both players.

Cookerly averaged a team-high 4.17 digs/set in the first weekend of action, totaling 50 digs over the three matches. The junior led all players in two of the three matches, picking up a match-high 19 digs in the win over Murray State and a match-best 20 digs versus South Dakota. Cookerly has now earned at least one All-Tournament award in each of her three seasons, as she was named to the All-Tournament Team at Notre Dame as a freshman and at Air Force as a sophomore.

McCarthy stood out on both sides of the net on the opening weekend of play. The junior led Valpo with 37 kills (3.08 kills/set) on a team-best .288 hitting and also contributed 10 blocks (0.83 blocks/set) defensively. She led the Brown and Gold with four blocks and tied for team-high honors with 11 kills on .400 hitting in the season-opening win over Murray State. McCarthy then posted a team-best 12 kills against South Dakota before closing the weekend by leading all players with 14 kills on .476 hitting and five blocks in the win at IUPUI. McCarthy’s All-Tournament honor was the third of her career, as she earned similar accolades last season at Eastern Illinois and in Valpo’s home tournament.
