Januski Named MVC Player of the Week

Following an outstanding all-around weekend which culminated in Tournament MVP honors at the Roadrunner Classic, Valpo junior middle Mallory Januski (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) was named the MVC Player of the Week on Monday.

Januski led the way with a trio of tremendous performances as the Beacons won their fourth consecutive tournament title. She averaged a team-high 2.89 kills/set and an even block per set while hitting at an incredible .548 clip.

Januski posted kills on over 60% of her swings over Valpo’s three victories and hit better than .400 in all three wins, highlighted by her performance in the victory over Incarnate Word. The junior tied her career high with 12 kills in the win over the Cardinals and hit at a career-best .688 clip, a mark which is second-best in a five-set match in program history. Januski followed with six kills on .417 hitting and four blocks in a sweep of host UTSA and closed the tournament by hitting .500 with eight kills in the sweep of Houston Baptist.

Januski has been a breakout star in the nonconference portion of Valpo’s schedule this year, averaging 2.12 kills/set through four weekends on .425 hitting — a hitting percentage which ranks 11th nationally. The honor is Januski’s first weekly award from the conference office, while she is the third different Valpo player to earn a weekly accolade this season.
