VALPO BEGINS PIVOTAL THREE-GAME HOMESTAND AGAINST CENTENARY ON MONDAY

THE COACHES: Valparaiso is led by Keith Freeman, who is in his 18th season of coaching, and 12th with the Crusaders. He is 335-183 overall and 206-136 at Valpo. Centenary is led by Elizabeth Wamsley, who is 4-44 in her 2nd season overall and with the Ladies.

SERIES RECORD: Valparaiso holds a 5-0 advantage against the Ladies all-time. The Crusaders hold a 2-0 edge against Centenary at the Athletics-Recreation Center. The series began January 26, 2004.

LAST MEETING: Valparaiso shot 63.2% in the second half and outrebounded Centenary 45-34 as the Crusaders defeated the Ladies 66-47 in Shreveport, La. on January 4, 2006. Tamra Braun led Valpo with 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting while grabbing six rebounds. Betsy Rietema added a double-double scoring 14 points and adding 11 boards. Holli Wilkins led Centenary with 16 points while Jelena Aleksic added eight points.

Valparaiso returns to the ARC on Monday evening as the Crusaders host Centenary to begin a three-game homestand to conclude the home portion of the 2005-2006 schedule. The Crusaders are coming off of a 69-54 victory at Southern Utah on Saturday night.

SUPER WOMAN: Lauren Bechtold played all 40 minutes for the Brown and Gold in the win over IUPUI last Monday. The senior has now been on the floor for the entire contest three times this season and nine times in her career.

RIETEMA FILLS THE STAT SHEETS: Betsy Rietema has tallied double-figures in the scoring column in nine of her last ten games after scoring 14 at Southern Utah on Saturday. The junior forward is averaging 14.5 points per game during the span. She is also grabbing 6.1 rebounds and dishing out 2.8 assists over the last ten games.

GUTOWSKI BURIES THEM FROM DEEP: Jamie Gutowski made a career-best six three-pointers at Southern Utah on Saturday night in just nine attempts. The senior guard came off of the bench to play 27 minutes, scoring a season-high 20 points.

MAKING THE FREEBEES: Valpo hit 15-of-17 (88.2%) free throws at Southern Utah after making just 65.4% from the line on the season prior to the game.

GUARD DUO AMONG VALPO'S BEST OUTSIDE SHOOTERS: Carrie Myers has now joined Jamie Gutowski among Valpo's top-ten career three-pointer shooters. Gutowski ranks sixth in school history having made 136 triples while Myers has moved into tenth place all-time with 116 treys.

VALPO'S OUTSIDE SHOOTING 5TH IN THE NATION: Valparaiso is shooting 40.1% from three-point range this season, a mark which ranks fifth in the country through January 30.

MYERS AMONG NATION'S TOP 3-POINT SHOOTERS: Carrie Myers has become one of the nation's elite outside shooters. The junior guard ranks 16th in the country shooting 44.9% from beyond the arc and is 15th making 2.85 triples per contest.

DOWN THE ROAD: Valparaiso continues its three-game homestand to conclude the season at the Athletics-Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon as first place Western Illinois comes to town. Tip-off against the Westerwinds is set for 2:05 p.m. After a week off, Chicago State visits the ARC on Senior Day, February 18, for a 2:05 p.m. game. Valpo then takes to the road for its final three games of the regular season beginning at IUPUI on February 20.

CENTENARY NOTES: Centenary arrives at Valpo to begin a three-game road trip against the Crusaders. The Ladies have dropped two straight games after falling 57-53 at home Saturday afternoon against league-leading Western Illinois.

The Ladies have a pair of players averaging in double-figures led by Holli Wilkins. The junior is averaging 13.7 points per game and is a 78.3% free throw shooter. She also leads the Mid-Continent Conference with 3.6 steals per night.

Van'esha Brabson is also tallying double digits posting 10.3 points per contest. She is one of just two players, along with Brittany Barbee to start every game for the Ladies.

As a team, Centenary is shooting 35.5% from the floor but just 29.7% from beyond the arc. They are averaging 17.7 turnovers per contest while forcing 18.6 per night.

The Ladies, currently in eighth place in the Mid-Con, have just one home game remaining on the schedule.
