Emig and Farris Sign to Play Hoops at Valpo

Valparaiso University women's basketball coach Keith Freeman has announced that the Crusader basketball program has signed Katie Emig and Whitney Farris to National Letters of Intent to play for the Brown and Gold beginning with the 2006-2007 season.

Emig, a 6'1" center from Farmington Hills, Mich. played at Birmingham Marian High School. She averaged 13 points and nine rebounds per game last season, and is a two-time All-Catholic League First Team Selection. She earned Honorable Mention All-State honors her junior season.

?Katie is a physical post player who does not shy away from contact," Freeman said. ?She has been a part of a successful program and has been tabbed as one of the best post players in the state of Michigan."

Farris, a 5'10" guard/forward, arrives at Valpo from Kokomo High School in Kokomo, Ind. She led her team to the semi-state last year averaging nine points per game.

?Whitney is a versatile, athletics defender," said Freeman. ?She can play multiple positions on the floor and I look for her to contribute early in her career. She comes from a great program at Kokomo."
