Jon Cain Joins Valpo's Hoops Staff

Valparaiso University head women's basketball coach Keith Freeman has announced the hiring of Jon Cain to fill the position of Associate Head Coach with the Crusader program effective May 31.

Cain brings a wealth of collegiate coaching experience to the Valpo program, including seven NCAA appearances, three WNIT appearances, and more than 250 wins as an assistant coach.

He arrives from Marquette University where he spent 11 seasons as an assistant coach. He helped guide the Golden Eagles to six 20-win seasons, including ten victories over nationally ranked opponents. Cain worked a great deal with the posts, including 11 players that earned All-America or All-Conference honors. While at Marquette, the Golden Eagles won a pair of Conference USA titles as well as two division championships.

Prior to Marquette, Cain was an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin from 1991-1994 and helped lead the Badgers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1992. He also spent time as an assistant coach at Baylor University from 1989-1991.

Cain is a 1984 graduate of Valparaiso University and earned his master's degree from Baylor in 1988.
