Hamlet Receives MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention
Meredith Hamlet received MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention for the second straight year.

Valparaiso University women’s basketball senior Meredith Hamlet (McBain, Mich. / McBain) was recognized for her success both on the court and in the classroom on Tuesday as she received Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention for the second consecutive season.

Hamlet is averaging 12.7 points per game this year and ranks fifth in program history in career scoring. She also ranks fourth in Valpo’s record book in career 3-pointers made, 14th in assists, eighth in made free throws, fifth in free-throw percentage and tied for third in games played. She was named MVC Player of the Week on Dec. 3 and was featured as part of the MVC Scholar-Athlete Spotlight on Nov. 21.

Hamlet, who owns a 3.55 grade point average in public relations, was selected to participate in the annual “So You Want to be a Coach” program, hosted by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. Away from basketball, she serves as the co-President of Valpo’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) on campus.

Hamlet traveled to Ethiopia this past summer as part of Athletes in Action, a 10-day trip with a team of collegiate women’s basketball players from across the country, with the goal of teaching people about the glory of God and the sport of basketball.

Hamlet and her teammates will battle Indiana State in the first round of Hoops in the Heartland on Thursday at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline, Ill.
