Valpo sophomore guard Carie Weinman (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South [Denver]) has been tabbed the MVC Women’s Basketball Newcomer of the Week for the third time this season after helping lead Valpo to its first win over UNI as a member of the Valley last weekend, as well as a near-miss against Drake on Sunday.

Weinman kicked off the week with a perfect 6-of-6 shooting performance for 14 points in the UNI win, highlighted by a key 3-pointer with the shot clock about to expire and 1:59 to play to extend Valpo's lead to six. Weinman also registered five steals in the win over the Panthers, just one off her season best in the category. Weinman then finished with 13 points and a game-high four steals against Drake on Sunday before fouling out after playing just 24 minutes.

On the weekend, Weinman averaged 13.5 points/game on 66.7% shooting from the floor and 4.5 steals/game. She far and away leads all MVC players in steals both overall (2.4/game; 2nd place 1.8) and in MVC-only play (3.1/game; 2nd place 2.1), and is just seven steals away from Valpo’s single-season top-10 chart.
