Bowling Closes Big Red Invitational With Consecutive Big Matches
Addy Bates rolled a 240 in Sunday's tournament finale.

The #19 Valpo bowling team closed out the Big Red Invitational from Lincoln, Neb. on Sunday with back-to-back high-scoring efforts, including a mark in the tournament finale which ranks among the best in program history.

How It Happened

  • Valpo concluded round-robin play with its opening match on Sunday against #2 Vanderbilt in the traditional team format. The Brown and Gold fell to the Commodores by a 1027-932 final despite efforts of 214 from sophomore Noelle Doody (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) and 203 by freshman Kaylee Hodson (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn).
  • Bracket play, also contested in the traditional team format, ensued, but as the ninth seed, Valpo had a bye in its first bracket match. That didn’t keep it from posting a strong team score of 1035, led by a 248 game from freshman Isabella Palamaro (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) and a 244 by Doody.
  • Valpo took on #RV Upper Iowa to determine ninth place in the final team standings and rolled to a 1065-843 win, led by Hodson’s 246 game and a 240 from freshman Addy Bates (Cedar Park, Texas/Cedar Park).
  • The 1065 score in the tournament finale ranks seventh in program history for a traditional team match and is the highest score Valpo has posted in traditional match action since February 2014.
