Junior Liz Bloy (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) stopped the clock at 22:44.25 in the 6K race en route to a 14th-place finish. More importantly, she earned All-League honors for the second consecutive season. The Valpo men's cross country team recorded an 8th-place finish at Saturday's Horizon League Championships held in Cedarville, Ohio. Meanwhile, the women's squad finished in 9th place.
Saturday was the fifth consecutive time Bloy led Valpo. Bloy, along with then-senior Jessica Richardson, captured First Team All-League recognition at the 2014 HL Championshps in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Sophomore Kim Heiny (Burnettsville, Ind./Twin Lakes) covered the track in 23:43.10, equaling the 42nd-fastest time in the women's race held in Cedarville, Ohio. Senior Hannah Schilling (Fraser, Mich./Lutheran North) stopped the clock at 24:28.9, while Tori Tamburrino (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) notched a 24:45.92 result. Seniors Dezzarae Arce (Orland Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew) and Sophia Robinson (Downers Grove, Ill./South) tallied finishes of 25:14.85 and 26:21.72, respectively.
Max Morello (Plano, Ill./Plano) paced the Brown and Gold men for the second meet this fall. He finished the 8K course in 26:40.66, good for 42nd place. Fellow junior Jesse Greenhagen (Waverly, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) crossed the line just behind Morello, at 26:41.86. Dan Walters (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) averaged 5:24.0 per mile en route to his 26:50.26 result. Freshman Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./University) finished the race nine-and-a-half seconds ahead of brother Adam Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./University) at 27:11.45 and 27:20.94, respectively. Freshman Ben Zibricky (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) rounded out Valpo's top six with a 27:37.13 time.
Oakland claimed both team titles.
Valpo will close out its season Friday, November 13th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Madison, Wisconsin.
