Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.) finished in a tie for sixth place at the Sunshine Spring Classic which concluded on Friday morning, helping Valparaiso to a seventh place finish as a team in the first event of the spring season held at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla.
Voigt carded a final round of 77 to finish with a 36-hole total of 155 over the 6,009-yard, par-72 layout. She finished four strokes behind the champion, Elia Foch Sola from Seminole Community College.
Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) improved four shots from round one and finished with an 81 on Friday to post 166. Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) added her second straight 86 to card 172 for the tournament while Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) finished at 175 after firing a Friday 87. Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale H.S.) rounded out the Valpo lineup with an 85 in round two to post a 36-hole total of 176.
As a team the Crusaders shot 329 in round two, an eight-stroke improvement over Thursday’s opening round. The Crusaders finished seventh at 666 while Lehigh won the team title shooting 623 (309-314).
Valparaiso will take three weeks off before returning to action March 26-27 at the Butler Spring Invitational.
