Crusader Women Open Fall Season at IU

The Valparaiso women's golf team opened its 2012 fall season Saturday at the IU Fall Kickoff in Bloomington, Ind., ending the first day of competition in eighth place. The Crusaders were led by a round of 80 from senior Jessica O'Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton).

The Crusaders posted a team total of 340 on the par-72 course as the teams played 18 holes on Saturday, good for their 18th-place standings. Host Indiana leads the way with a score of 298, while the Hoosiers' Elizabeth Tong tops the individual standings with a round of 72.

O'Brien paced the Crusader contingent on Saturday with the +8 round of 80, placing her in a tie for 18th place in the individual standings. Freshman Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) posted a round of 85 in her first collegiate action, good for 40th place, while junior Alyssa Cameron (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw) finished the day tied for 42nd place after a round of 87. Freshman Olivia McCormick (Grant Park, Ill./Grant Park) sits in a tie for 48th halfway through the tournament following a round of 88.

Valparaiso closes out action at the IU Fall Kickoff on Sunday with one more 18-hole round.
