Voigt’s second-place finish leads Valparaiso at HL Women’s Golf Championship
Kelly Voigt finished second at the Horizon League Women's Golf Championship.

Valparaiso junior Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) finished came in second place individually, and junior Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) joined Voigt in the top-10 to help the Crusaders finish fourth at the Horizon League Women’s Golf Championship at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The Crusaders finished with a three-day team score of 950. Detroit claimed the team title, and Youngstown State’s Allison Mitzel won the individual championship.

Voigt, who carded a final round 79 on Sunday, finished with a 54-hole total of 228. By finishing in the top-seven, Voigt was named to the all-tournament team.

Kleckner recorded her best round of the tournament by shooting a 77 in the final round. She made three birdies in the round, including two on the front nine. She finished 10th with a total of 238.

Junior Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) finished tied for 13th with a 54-hole total of 242.

Junior Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) ended up in a tie for 21st with a total of 245.

Sophomore A.J. Selig, who recorded a final round score of 80, finished in a tie for 28th with score of 252.

The Crusaders won finished first or second in three tournaments in the 2012-13 season, and Valparaiso’s fourth-place finish as a team represents the squad’s best finish at the Horizon League Championship in program history.
