Valpo Women Close Out MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial on Tuesday
Erika Pfaender and the Crusaders finished up play at Missouri State on Tuesday.

 

The Valparaiso women's golf team concluded the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial at Rivercut G.C. in Springfield, Mo. with the final two rounds on Tuesday, finishing the tournament in 14th place.

 

The Crusaders posted scores of 321 and 322 in the final two rounds to finish with a cumulative total of 959, the program's second-lowest 54-hole score ever. The score was good for a 14th-place finish in the 17-team field.

 

Valpo was led by the play of senior Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale), who shot rounds of 78 and 81 to end the tournament at 232, tied for 21st place and the third-lowest 54-hole score in program history. Fellow senior Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) matched Kleckner's effort over the final two rounds with scores of 80 and 79 to finish tied for 41st at 237, the sixth-lowest 54-hole score by a Crusader.

 

Sophomore Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) also cracked Valpo's 54-hole score all-time top-10, closing with rounds of 79 and 84 to finish with a total of 243, tied for 60th place. Senior Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) shot rounds of 84 and 82 to finish at 251, tying for 81st place, while freshman Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) come home in a tie for 93rd position at 259.

 

Valparaiso continues the fall campaign early next week at the Dayton Fall Invitational, teeing off to open play on Monday morning, October 21.
