Crusaders Within Striking Distance After One Round at Evansville

Following the third-best round in program history, the Valparaiso women's golf team sits just six shots back of the tournament lead at the Braun Intercollegiate, hosted by Evansville at Quail Crossing G.C. in Boonville, Ind.

The Crusaders posted a team score of 301 on Monday, trailing only a pair of rounds at the 2012 Dayton Fall Invitational in the program's record book. Valpo is just three shots back of second place and just six strokes back of team leader Lipscomb after the opening 18 holes.

A freshman and a senior tied for the Crusaders' best round on Monday, as Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) and Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) both shot rounds of 73 over the opening 18 holes to enter Tuesday tied for seventh place individually. Senior Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) opened the tournament with a 76 to sit in a tie for 25th after one round.

Freshman Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) posted a round of 79 to open play on Monday and is tied for 45th place. Senior Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) rounded out the Crusader team by opening the tournament with an 80, entering Tuesday tied for 51st position.

Valparaiso will wrap up the fall season on Tuesday as it closes out the Braun Intercollegiate.
