Gill, Kim lead Crusaders with Career Low Performances
Angie Kim looks on as her shot takes flight

The Valparaiso women’s golf team concluded play today at its season opening tournament at the Golfweek Program Challenge at Caledonia Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, S.C., finishing the 54-hole event with individual and team top-ten performances all-time.

Junior Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) shot a team-low 78 to lead the Crusaders as she finished tied for 27th. She finished with a 228 over 54 holes, tied for second-best all-time in Crusader history. Her previous 54-hole career low of 238 came at the Horizon League Championships this past spring.

Sophomore Angie Kim (Schaumburg, Ill./Frend) also carded a 78 as she ended the challenge in 47th with a 240 overall, just outside the Crusaders’ all-time top-ten in a 54-hole event. Junior Annie Gaugert (Lake Geneva Wis./Badger) finished right behind Kim in 48th place with a 241 as she shot an 86 for the day.

Freshman Katie Willenbrink (Mishawka, Ind./Mishawaka) shot a career-low 78 in her first tournament to finish in 50th with an overall score of 243. She had the highlight of the tournament as well, hitting a hole-in-one on the 17th hole. Sophomore Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) rounded out the Crusaders with an 87 for the day and 258 overall as she finished in 57th.

Valpo’s team score of 952 is second-best all-time in Crusader history for a 54-hole tournament, behind a 950 shot at the 2013 Horizon League Championships. The Crusaders improved by 19 strokes from last year’s performance at the Golfweek Program Challenge.

The Crusaders return to action on September 22-23 for 36 holes at the Cardinal Classic in Yorktown, Ind.
