Three Crusaders Earn WGCA Academic Honor
Sibil Gill was one of three Crusaders to earn the WGCA Academic honor.

A trio of Valparaiso golfers – junior Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western), graduated senior A.J. Selig (Hortonville, Wis./Appleton West) and freshman Katie Willenbrink (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) - have been named All-American Scholars by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).

Gill, Selig and Willenbrink were among 758 collegiate golfers spanning Division I, II and III to earn the academic honor from the WGCA.  The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, including maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.

Gill led the Crusaders on the course as a junior, posting a team-best scoring average of 80.68, fourth-best in a single season in program history. She earned a fourth-place finish at the Bulldog Florida Invitational and a ninth-place showing at the Benbow Invitational. Gill carries a 3.850 cumulative GPA into her senior year as a biology and chemistry double major.

Selig appeared in 10 rounds in her final season as a Crusader, posting an 88.50 scoring average. Her season was highlighted by her performance at the Dayton Fall Invitational, where Selig posted rounds of 77 and 80 for a 36-hole total of 157, the second-lowest 36-hole tournament score of her career and good for a 21st place finish in a 93-golfer field. Selig graduated from Valpo with a 3.750 cumulative GPA as a communication major.

Willenbrink debuted for the Crusaders as a freshman in 2014-15 and made an immediate impact, playing 18 rounds over eight events. She ranked fifth on the team with an 84.89 scoring average. Willenbrink shot a season-low round of 78 at the Golfweek Program Challenge and finished in 18th place at the Horizon League Championship. In the classroom, Willenbrink carries a 3.769 cumulative GPA as a physics major.
