Crusaders Fall to Wisconsin-Milwaukee 4-1

The Valparaiso University women's soccer team lost a 4-1 match to Wisconsin-Milwaukee on a cold night in Milwaukee, Wis. Friday evening.

The Panthers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Elizabeth Chudy scored unassisted at the 3:57 mark to put the home team on top.

The match remained 1-0 at intermission, depsite Wisconsin-Milwaukee outshooting Valpo 8-1 in the opening stanza.

UWM then scored a cluster of goals over a nine minute span to put the match out of reach. Maria Iaizzo scored far post from 12 yards out at 62:02 and Katie Kubacki headed in a cross at 65:04 to make the score 3-0 Panthers.

The Crusaders tallied their lone goal at 67:39 as Kristi Dixon (Ortonville, Mich./Notre Dame Prep) scored her first collegiate goal on a rebound to cut the deficit to two.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee added the final insurance goal 3:18 later as Iaizza finished off a rebound for the match's final margin.

The Panthers outshot Valpo 26-4 for the match, including a 15-3 advantage on goal. Kristen Templin (Madison, Wis./Middleton H.S.) made nine stops over the first 77:20 for Valpo and Danielle Guerra (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) pushed aside two more over the final 12:40. Mary Duffy and Molly Schneider, each playing a half, made one save each for UWM.

Valparaiso will return to action on Sunday afternoon to close out their regular season against Loyola (Ill.). Kickoff on Senior Day against the Ramblers is slated for 1 p.m.
