Maynard's Late Goal Lifts Valpo Over DePauw
Sunday, August 25, 2002
Becky Maynard (Munster, Ind./Munster H.S.) scored with less than two minutes to play as Valparaiso rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat DePauw 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Eastgate Field in the Crusaders final scrimmage of the preseason.

Maynard knocked in a ball that loose in the goalmouth after being headed into the air by Amy Miller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Lakota West H.S., Ohio) at the 88:39 mark to give Valpo the victory.

The Tigers took an early lead as Corinne Scott took a Jocelyn Keller cross from the left side and deposited it into the back of the net just 5:15 into the match.

Valpo had pressure on DePauw most of the match, and finally got the equalizer in the 66th minute as Cathy DeVito (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect H.S.) settled a Briana Ehrhardt cross five yards out beat goalkeeper Mary Kathryn Hancock.

The Crusaders outshot the Tigers 28-8 in the match, including an 18-1 advantage in the second half. Starting goalkeeper Allison Glibkowski made ten saves for DePauw. Starter Kristen Templin (Madison, Wis./Middleton H.S.) made three stops in the first half for Valpo, while Danielle Guerra (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) stopped one shot in the second half.

The Crusaders held a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Valpo will open its regular season next Sunday (Sept. 1) as the Crusaders host Toledo. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Eastgate Field.
