Valpo Falls 3-1 to Oral Roberts in Mid-Con Title Match

Oral Roberts scored three times in the first 17 minutes and defeated Valparaiso 3-1 in the Mid-Continent Conference Championship on Sunday afternoon in Rochester, Mich.

Emily Gagnon struck first for the Golden Eagles at the 5:01 mark, scoring after receiving a pass from Jessica Kellogg. Gentry Detter then scored high from 25 yards out at the 12:31 mark to put Oral Roberts in front 2-0.

Lindsay Holley (Waldorf, Md./Westlake H.S.) scored just 49 seconds later after a Emily King (Colona, Ill./United Township H.S.) free kick.

Kellogg added the third goal for Oral Roberts (14-5-1) at the 16:18 mark to close out the scoring for the match.

The Golden Eagles held a 9-4 advantage in shots in the opening stanza, and finished the match with a 13-9 advantage. Oral Roberts had eight shots on net, while Valpo had just five. Erin Murray (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley H.S.) made three stops for the Brown and Gold, while Stef Gurley made three saves for the Golden Eagles.

Valparaiso finishes the season 10-8-2 overall, tying the school record for victories in a season.
