This Week in Crusader Soccer: Valparaiso takes to the road for the final time in the 2006 regular season this weekend as the Crusaders head to Shreveport, La. for a pair of contests. On Friday, the Brown and Gold face Centenary in Mid-Continent Conference play before battling McNeese State in a neutral site non-conference match on Sunday morning.

On the Air: Neither of this weekend's women's soccer matches will be broadcast on the radio or the internet.

Series Notes: Valparaiso holds a 2-1-1 edge all-time against Centenary. The Crusaders have won the last two meetings between the schools, including last year's 2-0 triumph at Eastgate Field. The Ladies won the only previous meeting in Shreveport, 1-0, back in 2004. Valpo and McNeese State will be meeting for the first time ever on Sunday.

Scouting Centenary: The Ladies are looking for their first Mid-Con victory of the season still after Centenary dropped a 3-0 decision at Oakland last Friday. The Ladies are 3-3 at home this season. Stefani Robbs leads Centenary, and is third in the Mid-Con, with five goals on the season. She has also added an assist for 11 total points. Bre Fletcher has added six points on two goals and two helpers for the Ladies. In goal, Ali Hilsher has seen a majority of the action, posting a 1.84 goals against average and a .782 save mark on the year.

Scouting McNeese State: The Cowgirls have won two of their last three matches overall after defeating Sam Houston State 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in Southland Conference action. The shutout was the fourth of the season for McNeese State. Kamryn Koch leads the way offensively with eight goals and 16 points, including four match-winning goals. Ja'Nae Powell has added three goals and three assists for nine points total on the year. In goal, Shelby Money and Aubrey Ross have shared the majority of the time, posting 0.90 and 1.45 GAA respectively.

Wrapping Up Last Week's Action: The Crusaders had their eight-match winning streak snapped on Friday evening as IPFW shut out Valpo 1-0. On Sunday, the Brown and Gold rebounded for a 5-1 win over Lewis on Senior Day. Kendall Brown and Sarah Jewell each scored twice and Jen Bartels added her first tally of the season in the victory.

Valpo Looking to Set School Victory Mark this Weekend: One victory this weekend will tie Valparaiso's school record for wins in a season while two triumphs will set a new mark. Valpo's current 11-3 record trails just the 2005 team's win total from the 12-8 campaign.

Road Warriors: The seven road triumphs this season better the 2001 team's mark of five road wins for most victories on an opponent's home field in school history as Valpo gets ready for its final true road match of the regular season. The Crusaders are 7-1 to date away from Eastgate Field.

Succeeding in Overtime: Valpo has needed extra time for four victories this season, but continued to have success in overtime. The Crusaders are unbeaten in overtime in their last 12 contests (6-0-6) dating back to 2003.

Brown and Johnson Among Scoring Elite: Sophomore Kendall Brown has moved among the top all-time in goal scoring. With five goals this season, Brown now has 15 for her career, tying Elizabeth Tatro (1993-1996) for fourth place all-time on the school list. She trails Lisa Springs (1998-2001) by three goals all-time. Teammate Lori Johnson's 11 career markers rank her tied for sixth all-time with Lindsay Holley (2001-2004).

McGlone and Bartels Tied for Seventh on All-Time Assist Charts: Dana McGlone and Jen Bartels have each moved into a tie for seventh place on Valpo's career assist list. The pair each have seven during their career wearing the Brown and Gold.

Jewell's Seven Goals Tied for Sixth Most in a Single Season: Sarah Jewell's seven markers this season are tied for sixth most in school history on the single season list for the Crusaders.

Murphy Nees One Assist to Move into a Tie for Second: With her next assist this season, Laura Murphy will move into a tie for second place all-time on the Crusaders single season assist list. She enters this weekend with four already on the year.

Among the National Leaders: As a team, Valparaiso ranks among the nation's best in a pair of statistical categories. Valpo's 2.29 goals per game are 24th best in all of NCAA Division I, while the Crusaders' .786 winning percentage ranks 27th best in all the land.

Jewell and Johnson Among Mid-Con Best in Scoring: Freshman Sarah Jewell leads the Mid-Continent Conference in scoring on the season, tallying seven goals and 16 total points. Teammate Lori Johnson is tied for third in goals with five, but leads the league in match-winners, having sent the Crusaders home happy four times already this year.

Murray Having Stellar Season: Junior netminder Erin Murray has posted a 0.77 goals against average in 1048 minutes of play this season. She has allowed just nine goals during the span, saving shots at an .827 rate. Valpo's single season record for GAA currently is 1.35, set by Murray last season.

Scoring Already Among Best All-Time at Valpo: The 32 goals Valpo has already scored this season ranks third all-time and the Crusaders are on the verge of setting a new school mark. The 2004 team ranks second with 33 goals in a season while the 2005 squad holds the school mark with 36 tallies. The 25 assists on the year are third most in school history for a team, trailing just the 2004 (27) and 2005 (29) teams.

Longest Win Streak in School History Set This Season: Valpo's eight-match winning streak from September 8 through October 1 was the longest in school history, bettering the mark set by the 2000 squad of six consecutive victories.

Four Crusaders Earn Mid-Con Honors this Season: Valpo has had four Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of the Week selections thus far this season. Kendall Brown (Sept. 11) and Jessie White (Oct. 2) have each earned Offensive accolades while Erin Murray (Sept. 18) and Jackie Thomas (Sept. 25) have been honored for the Defensive award.

Valpo Picked Third in Preseason Poll: The Crusaders were selected third in the Mid-Continent Conference preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Valpo earned two first place votes but finished one point behind Oral Roberts in the race for second. Oakland is the preseason favorite.
