Valparaiso redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Galvez-Daley (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick [Creighton]) has been named the Horizon League women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week after making the first two starts of her career in goal last weekend, including her first career shutout.
Galvez-Daley debuted in Friday night’s game against Belmont, making three saves. She then stood strong in goal Sunday in the Crusaders’ double-overtime scoreless draw versus IUPUI, stopping four shots to secure the clean sheet. Galvez-Daley was the only Horizon League goalkeeper to earn a shutout in the opening weekend of play, while her 0.90 GAA was the league’s best for the weekend as well.
Galvez-Daley and the rest of the Crusaders return to action this weekend with a pair of matches in the state of Arizona, opening Friday evening at Grand Canyon at 9 p.m. CT.
