DuSatko, Norfolk Earn MVC Weekly Honors

Two of the three players who teamed up to produce the golden goal in the Valpo soccer win at Indiana State on Friday were honored with weekly awards from the Missouri Valley Conference office this afternoon. Sophomore Lindsey DuSatko (Plainfield, Ill./North) was named the MVC Player of the Week and junior Nicole Norfolk (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) picked up the MVC Defensive Player of the Week accolade.

DuSatko earned the Player of the Week award as she finished the match-winning move, cutting in from the right towards the near post and one-timing a low cross just inside the post for the lone goal in the 1-0 Valpo victory. The goal, her second of the season, was her third in as many career matches against the Sycamores. DuSatko previously scored a golden goal against Indiana State in Terre Haute this spring which sent Valpo to the MVC Tournament title match.

On the other end, it was Norfolk who started the match-winning move, stepping up from her center back position to win a ball in the midfield and then cutting inside to create a 2-v-1 situation before feeding the ball out wide to continue the move. Norfolk was credited with the secondary assist on the goal, her first career assist. Beyond that, Norfolk’s work at center back helped keep the Sycamores from threatening on the attack, as the Beacons surrendered just four shot attempts in 95 minutes.

DuSatko and Norfolk both earned weekly honors from the MVC for the first time in their respective careers. The Beacons have now had five Valley weekly awards this season, and five different players have been the recipients of those awards.
