Crusaders Record Season's First Win, Down Carthage 124-80

The Valparaiso University women's swimming and diving team recorded their first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Carthage 124-80 in Kenosha, Wis.

The Crusaders won seven events on the afternoon to pick up the road victory.

Maggie Kroemer (Brown Deer, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran H.S.) registered a 12 second victory in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:20.00.

Britt Nelson (Cortland, N.Y./Homer H.S.) then won the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:59.75. The win marked her third individual victory of the weekend after a pair against Wisconsin-Green Bay on Friday evening.

Ashley Seale (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville H.S.) registered a three second win in the 400 individual medley, touching the wall in 4:55.07.

Freshmen Leah Schneider (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) and Lauren Bambach (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman H.S.) each posted wins of their own as well. Schneider won by nine seconds in the 200 butterfly (2:19.32), while Bambach finished the 200 backstroke in 2:18.72.

Katie Urbas (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette H.S.) recorded the final win of the day for the Crusaders in the 500 free (5:33.93).

Valpo's 400 medley relay (4:19.10) of Nelson, Seale, Urbas, and Julie Fisher (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) got the Brown and Gold started with a victory in the opening race of the day.

The Crusaders will jump back into the pool on Friday evening when they travel to Muncie, Ind. The first race against Ball State and Butler will begin at 5 p.m. CST.
