The Valparaiso University women's swimming and diving team defeated Butler 50-45 on Friday evening, but fell to Ball State 71-34 in Muncie, Ind.
Britt Nelson was a double-winner in the meet. She began by taking top honors in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:47.21, winning by 18 seconds. She then registered a victory in the 500 free, touching the wall in 5:22.16, more than seven seconds faster than second place.
The women's 200 free relay also recorded a win as the team of Nelson, Leah Schneider, Jennifer Penninga, and Daniella Trombatore finished with a time of 1:45.04.
Individually, Schneider also earned a second place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:17.76.
Valpo will return to the pool on Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders face Miami (Ohio) and Xavier in Oxford, Ohio.
