Crusaders Sink Vikings 113-110

Valparaiso posted its second victory of the young season on Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders defeated future Horizon League foe Cleveland State 113-110 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Jaclyn Krause (Rochester, Mich./Notre Dame Prep H.S.) posted Valpo's first victory of the day in the water, winning the 50 freestyle by .07 seconds with a time of 25.45 seconds. Krause was a double-winner on the day, also posting a triumph in the 500 free. Her time of 5:28.71 bettered the field by nearly 12 seconds.

Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) was the winner of the 100 free with a time of 55.35 seconds in an event Valpo went one-two in. Amanda Gregory (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.) finished second .79 seconds behind.

Anna Orwick (Broadlands, Ill./Champaign Centennial H.S.) posted a pair of victories in diving, winning the one-meter board with a score of 200.40 while triumphing in the three-meter with a mark of 172.80.

The Crusaders then clinched the victory with a win in the 400 free relay. Krause, Majercik, Gregory, and Katlyn Smethurst (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge H.S.) touched the wall in 3:40.95.

The Crusaders' win total has already surpassed that of the 2005-2006 squad with the victory.

Valpo (2-3) returns to the water on November 11 in doubleheader action against a pair of future Horizon League foes. The Crusaders will battle UW-Green Bay beginning at 11:30 a.m. before hosting UW-Milwaukee at 4:30 p.m. at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
