Valparaiso posted eight event victories on Friday evening in the Crusaders' home opener, but it was not enough as Xavier (Ohio) defeated the Brown and Gold 157-123.
Elizabeth Thompson (Norman, Okla./North H.S.) earned a four-second victory in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall in 2:14.04. The freshman was a double-winner on the evening, also posting top honors in the 200 individual medley, finishing in 2:17.66.
Anna Kampling (Iowa City, Iowa/West H.S.) followed with a win in the 50 freestyle, edging out teammate Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) by just .06 seconds with her time of 25.23 seconds. She followed that victory up with a win in the 100 fly, winning in a time of 1:01.18.
Jaclyn Krause (Rochester, Mich./Notre Dame Prep H.S.) made it three straight wins for the Crusaders with her triumph in the 100 free, finishing in 54.84 seconds.
Anna Orwick (Broadlands, Ill./Champaign Centennial H.S.) won both diving events, scoring 181.55 points on the one-meter board and 149.95 points on the three-meter event.
The 200 freestyle relay ended the meet with a win as Majercik, Krause, Amanda Gregory (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.), and Katlyn Smethurst (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge H.S.) registered a time of 1:40.32.
Valparaiso (1-3) will return to action on Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders head to Cleveland State. The meet against the Crusaders' future Horizon League foe is set for 12 p.m. CDT.
